Adjudicator’s Dinner

Adjudicators’ Dinner Saturday 9th of March 2024

The Club’s annual Adjudicators’ Dinner is held to thank our Schools’ Competition Adjudicators who give up their time to support and allow the running of our annual competition. Their work is greatly appreciated and the Dinner is a small way in which we are able to express our thanks and appreciation to them. This year we held a very successful evening at Whitecraigs Golf Club. Those in attendance included the adjudicators, teachers and volunteers who all give up their valuable time to allow the running of the Schools’ Competition and the night was enjoyed by almost 50 guests.

The evening began with a greeting and introduction from Soutar Eric Thompson, who welcomed everyone to the dinner. This was followed by the ‘piping’ in of the Haggis, accompanied by Maggie Milton on keys. President Buchan then addressed the Haggis in fantastic style and this was followed by grace delivered by the President. Guests then enjoyed a fantastic four course meal provided by the excellent team at Whitecraigs G.C. The meal was to a very high standard and there were clean plates all round. Diner was followed by the loyal toast.

Following a short interval, Maggie Milton then lead two items of community singing namely ‘The Bonnie Lass O’ Ballochmyle’ and the wonderful ‘Ae Fond Kiss’. President Buchan then superbly performed two songs ‘Where’er you walk’ and ‘Where is Love’ from Oliver, accompanied by Maggie, which was met with great applause by the entertained guests.

Vice President Botfield then proposed a first class toast to the lassies.

Soutar Thompson then, with the help of some items of fancy dress, gave a first class rendition of ‘John Anderson, My Jo’ - the hugely insightful poem by Burns describing the love of an elderly couple who have a wonderful friendship and admiration for one another in their later years. This however then came with a twist, as Soutar Thompson then gave a modern 21st Century version of the poem.

Norah Buchan, wife of our President, then stood and delivered an eloquent reply on behalf of the lassies which was greatly received by all in attendance.

President Buchan then gave one more solo performance of ‘Stars’ from Les Miserables and the night was rounded off with a rousing community rendition of ‘A Man’s a man’

Vice President Botfield then gave the vote of thanks and a bouquet of flowers was presented to Norah Buchan for her fantastic reply, Joan McEeachen as an acknowledgment of all the hard work she does for Bridgeton Burns Club and of course, Maggie Milton, who really made the night with her piano playing and leading of the singing. V.P Botfield also thanks the staff and catering team at Whitecraigs Golf Club for all their hard work and fantastic service. The evening was then rounded off with all guests singing
‘Auld Lang Syne’.
